Half-inch cartridge tape drive using DLT linear recording technology with
adaptive control mechanisms. Symmetric Phase Recording Technique and a
flexible four-channel recording system allow 5 megabyte per second with 35
gigbyte native capacity. Utilizes high efficiency data compression, data
compaction (variable block sizes without capacity loss), and a tape mark
directory for faster lookups. Adaptive cache buffer optimizes operations
based on host data rate capabilities. Head life: 30,000 hours; cartridge
life of over 500,000 media passes and MTBF of 200,000 hours. Uses
Reed-Solomon Error Correction Code with a 64-bit CRC on each physical data
block, a 16-bit CRC on each record, and parity checking on the SCSI bus and
throughout the internal data path for an uncorrceted error rate of 1 in
10^17 bits and an undetected error rate of 1 in 10^27 bits. Data recovery
process utilizes read retries and head positioning, tape tension
adjustment. DLT tapes have a shelf-life of over 30 years.

LabVIEW
- graphical programming software for virtual instrumentation
Company: National Instruments
(Austin, TX)
Telephone: (512) 794-5426
Fax: (512) 794-8411
E-mail: erin.nelson@natinst.com
URL: http://www.natinst.com
Platforms: Sun, HP, Windows, Windows NT, Macintosh, PowerMac
Description:
Extensive and robust programming and control GUI environment generator for
creating control and interaction interfaces for data acquisition hardware
from Suns, HPs, PCs, Macs and PowerMacs. Interfaces, control programs,
partial and complete libraries, virtual instrumentation models, and samples
are availale from NI's WWW site and BBS. Data exchange via TCP/IP, piping,
DDE, Apple Events, and PPCs. Programming by drag-and-drop "wiring" from
icons and objects and on-screen controls ranging from from simple
arithmetic functions, to advanced acquisition and analysis routines, to
network and file I/O operations, creating a graphical block diagram of data
flow that controls execution operations. Because the execution order in
LabVIEW is determined by the flow of data between blocks, and not by
sequential lines of text, diagrams can be created that have simultaneous
operations. VI diagrams are modular in design, so any VI can run by itself
or be used as part of another VI, and can be black-boxed to be treated as
another standard object.
Product:
MainWin XDE 1.3
- cross-platform development tools with true Windows API

APIs. Incorporates major segments of Microsoft code, including
implementation of exact Windows data structures and source code on Unix. In
addition, MainWin 1.3's enhanced performance improves the efficiency of
window management operations, resulting in fewer trips to the X Server.
This direct use of Microsoft code results in better overall performance
than Motif-based competitors.
