FireWall-1 SYNDefender
- protection against denial of service attacks
(free D/L)
Company: Check Point Software Technologies Ltd.
(Redwood City, CA)
Telephone: (415) 562-0400
E-mail: info@checkpoint.com
URL: http://www.checkpoint.com
Platforms: Sun Solaris for SPARC and x86, SunOS 4.1.x, HP-UX 9.x, 10.x
Description:
A downloadable software module for Check Point's FireWall-1. Protects
the firewall against denial of service attacks, which have crippled
Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in recent weeks. It protects
against TCP SYN (requests for connection establishment) flood attacks
by intercepting all SYN packets and mediating connection attempts
before they reach the operating system. This prevents the target host
from becoming flooded by unresolved attempts, which cause the
operating system, and the host, to stop receiving new connections. As
a result, the host system is insulated from the SYN attack and the
denial of service condition that results. It inspects network
communication attempts before they reach the operating system. There
are two implementations of the software, SYNDefender Relay and
SYNDefender Gateway. Which implementation a network administrator
chooses to integrate into a FireWall-1 installation depends on the
network's characteristics.

MASTER Toolbox, version 4.1
- cell characterization and model generation toolset
($80,000)
Company: Meta-Software, Inc.
(Campbell, CA)
Telephone: (408) 369-5400
Fax: (408) 371-5638
E-mail: info@metasw.com
URL: http://www.metasw.com
Platforms: HP, IBM and Sun
Description:
Cell characterization and model generation toolset characterizes and
generates Verilog models for complex cells, such as counters, shift
registers, and LSSD's from SPICE netlists. It also adds automatic
model generation for Avant!'s Star-R smart RC extraction and delay
analysis system and for the Synopsys Design Power low power synthesis
tool. By adding complex cell modeling technology, it gives library
developers a tool that characterizes high-performance logic libraries
from their circuit libraries. It characterizes 99% of the cells
provided in a SPICE netlist format. The previous version recognized
95%. It automatically acquires all data such as functionality, timing
and violations from circuit descriptions to create simulation,
synthesis, power and timing models for logic design. Models are
generated for design tools from Cadence, Mentor, Synopsys, Viewlogic
and others. Supports the VHDL and VITAL standards. In addition, it
automatically verifies all the models against SPICE descriptions.
Version 4.1 adds new methodology for automatic acquisition that
guarantees Verilog model generation regardless of cell complexity. It
automates the library development process for complex cells. It also
uses pattern recognition technology to automatically partition complex
cells and extract a Verilog structural netlist from the original SPICE
netlist. The Verilog netlist is further used for automatically
generating functional models and stimuli.

pRISM+
- development tools for real-time embedded applications
($7,500)
Company: Integrated Systems, Inc.
(Sunnyvale, CA)
Telephone: (408) 542-1785
E-mail: info@isi.com

product's heterogeneous development environment allows tool-to-tool
and tool-to-target communication over local and wide area networks.
This capability allows development projects to move from single
workstations to distribution across networked workstations with
enterprise-wide access to shared targets and data. A project's pRISM+
development environment can be spread across both Windows and UNIX
platforms. The project management tools are derived from SNiFF+, an
open object-oriented tool set developed by ISI subsidiary TakeFive
Software that provides management, analysis, and browsing capabilities
in the native environment for C, C++ and Java code.
