London -- AT&T Corp. is developing an Internet and online transaction system with Sun Microsystems called Geoplex, according to sources close to the company.

Scheduled to be launched in 1997, Geoplex will offer corporations the ability to buy and sell goods securely over the Internet, sources said. Geoplex will stage two of AT&T's three-phased attack on the worldwide Internet market.

During phase one, the company will offer its WorldNet Managed Internet connection service. The second phase will be to offer a World Wide Web hosting service and Geoplex Online Transactions service, and the third phase will be to offer content to Internet customers, according to sources.
