Description:
A tape drive promising a data transfer rate of 300 KB/sec., which is
twice as fast as a 150-megabyte QIC drive and nearly as fast as the
current 4-mm tape drive in native mode. The full contents of a tape can
be backed up in less than 2.5 hours. Using software compression
utilities such as compress, an average of 5 gigabytes of data can be
backed up on a 2.5 gigabyte tape. The new tape device is available as
an internal option for the SPARCcenter 2000(E) systems and also in
Sun's new SPARCstorage UniPack for desktop workstations and servers.
