Internet Society appoints new slate of officers

ISOC has been criticized in the past for being too U.S.-centric.

ISOC's Board of Trustees elected the new members, who include:

• Denmark's Frode Greisen, managing director of ISP backbone provider Ebone Inc., as chairman.
• France's Christian Huitema, a scientist at Bellcore's Internet Architecture Research Laboratory, as treasurer.
• Geoff Huston of Telstra Corp., an Australian telecommunications company, as secretary.

The remaining six people were elected as vice presidents and are, with one exception, based in the U.S.: Vinton Cerf, senior vice president of Internet architecture and engineering at MCI Corp., George Sadowsky of New York University, Christine Maxwell, president and publisher of Chiliad, a London-based electronic publishing firm, Tim O'Reilly, founder and president of O'Reilly & Associates, a computer and software publisher, Scott Bradner, a senior technical consultant at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA, and Lawrence Landweber of the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
