Sun's press relations department recently mailed out a thick package of press releases from dozens of vendors announcing support for the Ultra 1 workstations.

Sun and its partners promoted some specific products that will run on the Ultra workstations, including:

• Atria ClearCase and ClearCase MultiSite software configuration management products
• Auto-trol Technology Corp.'s Centra 2000 (product data management system, KONFIG (physical network management system) and Tech Illustrator (graphics applications)
• Advanced Visual Systems' AVS and AVS/Express visualization software
• Cadence Design Systems' design automation software
• Cadre Technologies' software development tools
• CenterLine Software's software testing tools
• Computervision Corp.'s CADDS 5 suite of design automation products
• Compuware Corp.'s EcoTools systems management product

• Electrogig's visual communication and image-production experts

Most of these products were expected to be available once the Ultra 1 began shipping in volume.
