Fax: (757) 833-9300
E-mail: sales@cybernetics.com
URL: http://www.cybernetics.com
Platforms: Sun, HP, IBM, many others
Description: Data Encryption option for Cybernetics' full line of tape backup subsystems. Security risk exists whenever gigabytes of information can be stored on a small, removable media. By utilizing data encryption as well as access card keys, Cybernetics subsystems can provide not only protection from "normal" data loss through backup, but they can also protect a company's sensitive information - such as payroll records, financial data, and customer lists - from theft and unauthorized access by insiders. Features hardware encryption and card key authorization for double protection. The encrypted information stored on a tape can only be accessed if the tape is read on the same encryption drive on which it was created with the appropriate access card inserted to permit authorization. Encoded card keys designate three levels of authorization equivalent to employee security clearance levels. All card holders will be able to perform backup and restore functions, but only high level card holders will be able to view the data in decrypted form. The highest level provides full access to all data tapes and allows the user to choose whether or not to encrypt data that is being written to tape, while the lowest level limits the user to performing backup and restore of encrypted data only. A middle level offers full read privileges, but requires encryption for writing data to tape.
