TOWN FORTRESS

In the 16 th century the whole town was fortified by stone walls against the threat of Turkish attack. The course of these fortifications can still be traced in the area of the present - day Monument of the Slovak National Uprising where also two bastions have been preserved. Fortifications can be seen near the river Hron which flows through the town and in the castle area.
